55407 began as a comic zine back in the 90s in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 55407 was the zip code I lived in for about eight years during that decade. It was also the title of the comic zine I produced, inspired by a cartoon spin-off of the popular 90s show 90210. However, in my version of 55407, the narrative focused on a group of local friends living in the hood, featuring a political twist. The abstract cartoon artist Jen Hemenway published comics and created several cartoon strips during that time. The spin-off cartoon I wrote, 55407, is no longer in circulation and was exclusively available at local comic book shops. Eventually, 55407 komix began producing quarterly cartoons for an international quarterly based in Hawaii in the 90s. Today, 55407 komix serves as a label for cartoon work by Jen Hemenway. It has evolved from a comic into a freelance cartoon business, and soon it will become a label for cartoon art that will include clothing, canvas art, and furniture designs. To explore more comic art and discover upcoming projects, please keep an eye on future posts on this page, along with new information about the label. You can also find more work by the abstract cartoon artist Jen Hemenway on other pages coming soon to upsideskatedecks.com. Additionally, a project idea is in the early planning stages at upsideskatepark.com, which are just a couple of other things to check out in the meantime. Expect PICS and updates soon!
